Lauren Howe (born July 10, 1993) is a Canadian engineering graduate, actress, entrepreneur, sports personality, model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Teen Canada World 2011 and also Miss Universe Canada 2017. She represented Canada in the Miss Universe 2017 pageant which was held in The AXIS, Las Vegas, Nevada on November 26, 2017. Making it to the top ten. Howe is a beutiful was born in Toronto, Ontario. Her mother, Lorrie Howe, was adopted to a Ukrainian Polish family. Lauren is of Frenchand German background. She played field hockey for Team Ontario and represented Canada in a tournament at Sydney Olympic Stadium. She also has volunteered internationally in India, Ghana, and Peru. She spent her first year of university at McGill University studying Biomedical Engineering before transferring to the University of Toronto for Industrial Engineering. During her program, she assisted in designing sanitation facilities in India. She graduated in 2016 and was recognized by the university as one of “Ten Female Students to Watch”. In 2014, she appeared on TSN and shortly after became the In-Arena Host for the Toronto Maple Leafs for two seasons. She has also hosted at events including the IIHF World U20 Championship, Canadian Women’s Hockey League All-Star Game, 2015 Pan American Games, Canadian Open (tennis) and Invictus Games. After graduating, she worked in sales strategy at adidas Group Canada then as a technology consultant before leaving to start her own business in 2017.   At the end of the day, it is my goal to ensure that everything I do in life creates a lasting, positive impact on the world and the people around us. As a child, I loved film because it used the power of storytelling to move and inspire us. Documentaries help give a voice to people who otherwise may not have the opportunity to do so. In school, I learned how science and engineering have the power to develop creative, new and impactful solutions to problems people face globally. This drew me to pursue a formal education in Industrial Engineering and I am proud to be a female in this space. There is still work to be done about breaking stereotypes in this field. For example, undergraduate engineers receive an Iron Ring upon graduation. I was once asked by a group of male engineers working for a successful organization if I “was really an engineer or just wear that ring for fun”. This is my motivation. This is why I want to use my platform to inspire young women to challenge the status quo and empower them to be the change makers of the world. While in University, I was privileged to work as the In-Arena Host for the Toronto Maple Leafs. This opened up opportunities to host many other events including the Toronto Pan and Parapan American Games, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League All Star Game, the IIHF World Junior Championships, the Grey Cup and the Rogers Cup. After graduating, I worked in Sales Strategy for adidas Group Canada while continuing to work part time in media. Now I am continuing with a career in film and television while pursuing entrepreneurial ventures. My goal is to use these platforms to encourage and empower women to pursue fields in STEM-related fields.
